Mikey O'Connell

TV Features Editor

Mikey O'Connell is the TV Features Editor at The Hollywood Reporter, where he's held several positions since joining the magazine in 2011. Though his primary focus is covering the television industry, he frequently explores culture and film — writing and reporting features, news, interviews and profiles, as well as overseeing many annual editorial packages such as the Hollywood's 50 Most Powerful Showrunners issue. Mikey also manages weekly Q&A franchise Creative Space and wonders how many days will pass before his parents notice this new bio. (He'll report back on that.)

‘Tiny Beautiful Things” Liz Tigelaar Talks About the Tightrope Walk of TV Adaptations

When writer Liz Tigelaar isn’t on set, in her Fox lot bungalow office or at the Venice home she shares with her wife, their 7-year-old son and two French bulldogs, she occasionally relaxes at (and, yes, works from) one of the tonier trailer parks on the planet: Malibu’s Paradise Cove. That’s where she’s shared a […]

‘Yellowjackets’ Creators Get Real on Season 2 Pressure, Showtime Tumult and Spinoffs: “We Have a Couple of Ideas”

When Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson first moved to Los Angeles, working as a dog walker and P.F. These days, however, it’s where they go to […]

The exceptionally fit filmmaker, who stood in for Keanu Reeves in the first Matrix movie before becoming the trilogy’s martial arts coordinator, has now collaborated with the star for […]

Is Hollywood Too Sensitive for the Razzies?

Hollywood’s bloated egos require some manner of annual deflation, especially during Oscar season. For more than 40 years, that has been the objective of the Golden Raspberry Awards. The Razzies, as they’re (un)affectionately known, have celebrated the best of the worst in film since 1980. The dubious honor has been accepted by such self-deprecating luminaries […]

They wept, they self-sabotaged and they emailed every influential person in their address book … so as the long road to the Oscars finally approaches its end, THR acknowledges the unsung success stories of the FYC season.

‘Daisy Jones & the Six’ Showrunner on Song Switches, Fake/Real Concerts and Shutting Down the Sunset Strip

Daisy Jones & the Six may be the most-read-about fake band in history. Taylor Jenkins Reid’s 2019 novel about a fictional seventies rock group of the same name has sold well over a million copies and has a bonkers 940,000 ratings on literary social media hub Goodreads — so the pressure to deliver a TV […]

HGTV Orders More of Two Young Shows, With an Eye on Diversifying Talent and Streaming Output

HGTV, like all legacy Discovery channels, can no longer program exclusively for cable. There’s also streamer Discovery+ to think of, and, in a few months, the parent company’s HBO Max replacement that will also include the sprawling lifestyle roster. So, naturally, orders aren’t slowing down. The latest re-ups are particularly interesting — not just because […]
